25.000 new cases of autism are diagnosed very year. It is a growing problem that affects all economic groups and ethnic backgrounds. The need for autism awareness is increasing as more and more is being done within the community. Better public education and television programs are raising the publics’ autism Awareness. The new autism awareness means that many people now recognize the symptoms of autism, many an autistic child’s actions have in the past been put down to an extremely naughty child. There are no obvious physical signs that separate the autistic child from any other, so being able to recognize an autistic child is one of the first steps towards autism awareness.
Raising autism awareness is imperative in the early diagnosis of the disease. Parents of a child may suspect early autism, and it is this public autism awareness that allows doctors to spot the hard to pin down symptoms. Autism will never be the easiest disease to diagnose as nearly every sufferer displays different manifestations across the wide spectrum.
Typically autism manifests itself before the child is three, and early diagnosis means early treatment, and the early the behavior therapy is started the more successful the outcome. Autism awareness means that more public resources such as legislation and education can be allocated, which is important in a disease that has an increasing number of victims.
The behavior of the autistic child may be judged and graded from the weird to unacceptable. Autism awareness means that autism is brought within the realms of mainstream society, and if the public knows what to expect then their capacity to comprehend the complexities increases.
As Autism was at first diagnosed as a retarded disease of the brain many myths need to be dispelled. Autism awareness means the acceptance that the disease can affect the whole body. There are dietary issues, the role of environmental pollutants such as mercury, need to be explored, as well as care for adult autism within the community.
Other than the National Autism Agency there are many other organization working towards the goal of autism awareness. If you feel that your autism awareness is up to speed there will many local groups that will be able to help begin your research at the local library. Your local health center probably has a simple pamphlet that will clarify the relevant issues. Autistic children find it difficult to enunciate their needs as a society it is important we all listen.
