Finding Efficient Cures for Panic Attacks
Panic attacks are abrupt gushes of overwhelming terror and anxiety. Your heart would pound uncontrollably and you find it hard to breathe. You start having irrational thoughts and for no reason, you think that something bad is going to happen and you would be unable to escape it. You break down and believe that you are losing your mind. If it would go on untreated, panic attacks could develop to panic disorder, another anxiety disorder, and other complications. Panic attacks may even interfere with your daily activities and relationships with people.
Panic attacks are very sudden and unfounded. Even when there is nothing to panic about, you feel intense panic and fear gripping your body. They could even take place during your sleep or when you are totally feeling tranquil. Sometimes, panic attackss are set off by certain events which make you feel anxious or scared, like first-time scuba diving or being alone in elevator when suddenly a blackout took place. In some instances, they take place as part of another illness like panic disorder, depression, and the like. Not considering the possible cause, they are treatable; you could get elp for panic attacks.
Providentially, numerous treatments are being offered that may be used in coping with panic attacks, or better yet eliminate it for good. But the best treatment for panic attacks is therapies. Some of these therapies are cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure therapy.
The best and most effective treatment considered is cognitive-behavioral therapy. This therapy helps you understand your fears in a more realistic light by focusing on the thought patterns and behaviors that are activating or prolonging the panic attacks. For example, you are driving and a sudden surge of panic gripped you. Ask yourself first what the worst thing that could possibly happen while you are driving is; getting in a crash or experiencing a heart attack perhaps? Maybe. Then ask yourself what is the best thing you could do about it? The obvious answer here is to pull over to the side of the road. By doing so, the possible “dangers” are likely not going to happen. Once you realize that nothing really terrible is going to happen, the experience of panic becomes less frightening.
Exposure therapy on the other hand, involves you being exposed to the impressions and physical symptoms of panic in a secure environment, providing you the opportunity to develop healthier ways of coping. you might be asked to do certain activities like hyperventilating, shaking your head from side to side, or breathing exercises. These activities produce the feelings similar to a panic attack’s symptoms. Every time you are exposed, you would become less scared of these internal bodily feelings, thus, gaining more control over the panic you are feeling.
These two therapies are effective panic disorder treatment forms and can even improve or totally eliminate agoraphobia and other anxiety problems. Treatments like medications, drugs and self-help techniques may also be done.
