Autism Books Are a Tool
Autism Books Are a Tool to Help You Cope
Any literature written about autism as a self-help autism book is directed towards, the family, the teacher, the health care professional. Sad though this is, there are many good reasons why a self-help autism book will probably never be a reality. Whilst there are different levels of autism and a small number, the Asperger’s sufferers can be super intelligent in certain fields, the reality for most autistic people is starkly different. Many autistics are locked in their own private hell, their inability and disinterest regarding communication and social interaction renders many of them incapable of learning.
Despite the fact that the number of diagnosed cases are statistically six times higher than they were in the sixties. The subtle levels and grades of disability are now better understood. It is not known whether the number of sufferers’ is actually increasing or whether the diagnostic tools are now more accurate.
Despite the fact that tools are better we are no nearer to fully understanding the disease. There are certain facts that may or may not be adhered to. It appears that children are not generally born with the disease they develop the symptoms at about eighteen months. From that point there is a very distinct and marked mental deterioration. The child becomes more and more introverted and completely disinterested in outside stimuli and outside communication.
Despite the excellent books on autism these conditions within the autistic sufferer precludes them from either reading or benefiting from a self-help autism book. Assuming that they could read an autism book, it would be very doubtful that they could implement any suggestions; there limited imagination will not give them the scope or ability to assimilate self-knowledge in this manner.
Despite the fact that autistics cannot benefit from autism book does not mean that they’re not other methods of communication that can help them.
About 50 percent of them, when assessed for cognitive functioning, score within the mentally retarded range, about half do not develop speech and language at all and about 90 percent suffer from significant sleep disturbances. However one of the myths is that they are not trying to communicate. If we can learn to understand their world then many of the tantrums they exhibit may well diminish.
However until that happens the rest of the family members will need effective autism books so they can be taught how to cope with this challenging disease.
